The illusion of infinite resources Aasimov wrote a story called "The Last Question". It's been done over into a digital comic, short films, etc. for some time now. You can find multiple iterations of this idea, but one of it's important implications is that "the are no infinite resources." Sure, there are "so many resources that it's a not a problem anymore". Think of the premise of someone saying "there's nothing to watch" in 2025. It might not foster you in any way, but there is an insurmountable amount of content to watch... however, if all media production stopped now and you could live long enough, you could eventually watch it all on a long enough timeline. It's not infinite, but it feels like it is for our lifetime. How many US Dollars do you think there are, in sum total right now? "Infinite" is a statement of quantity. If we think there is an infinite amount of Water, we behave very differently in our use and how we acquire it. It's not that it would ever run out, it's that we don't have a place to get it right now. When Red Lobster closes all of it's stores, we'll at least be able to get those sweet, sweet, cheddar bay biscuits from our local supermarket and make them at home. Right? Don't worry, I'm sure someone will have a recipe to replace them and fill the biscuit shaped hole it leaves in the universe. I want you to imagine for a moment however, that there isn't. That someone can't replicate those biscuits, can't replace what happens when Red Lobster closes all over the world. Now what? All we have is the memory of Cheddar bay biscuits in a booth somewhere while watching a lobster tank and smelling seafood vaguely on the air. # Resources Covers all current USD in circulation. While this fluctuates it helps to get a definite idea of how much money "exists" https://ycharts.com/indicators/us_currency_in_circulation#:~:text=US%20Currency%20in%20Circulation%20(I%3AUSCCNW)&text=US%20Currency%20in%20Circulation%20is,2.39%25%20from%20one%20year%20ago.
