"Hello, friend" So we haven't done this in quite a long time. In fact, you're probably not even aware there was a gap because if anything, this is coming in on such a break from the site that i've lost any natural readers i once had apart from family and friends visiting this site as a favor or piqued interest. Who's fault would that be? # At Peace [At Peace](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDhTf3eaeoM)(i'm late to this party by a month). Propagandhi's "At Peace" is the title track and teaser of their upcoming album, due out May 2nd (and currently available for pre-saving on Apple Music, Spotify, etc. There's a couple lines in there that really stood out and had me remembering why I always come back to them. I rarely see the Manitoba punks brought up by people in Reddit threads on either r/punk or r/hardcore, which would be their closest associations. While they've been in the scene for decades now, they're also on that niche of bands that have reading lists, essays, direct-to-benefit and I found it difficult to not resonate with Chris's self-examination in the middle of the song: ``` When shit got dark, i had to face it alone, there'd be no crying for help It's just how i'm wired I've had to figure shit out my whole life by myself I ain't saying it's cool, it's fucked up Truth be told, it's cost me a few friends But sometimes you must protect yourself Fucker, i'm resourceful. resilient, I power through the waves of disappointment Maybe not quite thriving, but i'm bouyant I am at peace these days ``` Couldn't transcribe that without tears welling on that final line. Mainly due to a smaller five minute interview the band had given recently, [linked here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAYVMj0fsFM&pp=ygUVcHJvcGFnYW5kaGkgaW50ZXJ2aWV3) Chris Hannah stated "You have to figure out how to live a somewhat meaningful life... You have to find some hope or purpose in a world that's so chaotic, and currently on such a downswing that it's very hard to know what to do." He added, "there has been a sense been like a sense that people have been seeing themselves in the song, in terms of the psychic toll that world events have taken on them, and sometimes just hearing somebody put your internal chaotic thoughts into words that resonate... you just get this little lift, just knowing that somebody else is seeing the world for what it is, instead of for what it isn't". You're going to likely hear me vent more about Propagandhi.
