Kailey had not seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes. We watched that tonight with Doug and it reminded me of that Article I heard/read regarding angry hamsters due to gene editing. [[2024-03-28]] While the film heavily simplifies the concept into "gene-modified Ape gives birth to genetically superior Ape", it's still a concern that we might inadvertently create superhumans or superviruses from playing with this. The accidental annihilation of a species might just be a stepping stone for whatever secondary evolution springs up. It's a cold thought, but i can't help imagine if partway through the Ape evolutionary path we had present day human cognition and processing power... How much more incredible might the human race be? That's what it would be like if those movies were "real". Sure the apes might live in treetops and the like for longer, but to think that they would be able to communicate as we do and process information at or beyond our level is an incredible concept. For any animal granted a few generations of focused domestication, we might actually end up with something more like a human than we realize.
